What to look for in Genuine Rolex versus replica Rolex
Rolex watches are the status symbol of the
rich. It is the one brand of watches which has been made into replicas, sold to
people who gets the satisfaction of wearing a replica of one of the most
expensive watches in the world. However, the replicas of Rolex watches are
sometimes sold illegally as genuine ones, which are difficult to detect by
normal people. The details of the differences between an original Rolex and
replica watch can well be determined by a dealer or a watchmaker who are
experienced in dealing with Rolex watches.
There are various ways to find out if the watch is a
replica Rolex or genuine. If you
are not at all aware of the differences to look for, you can take the watch to
your local Rolex dealer or to a jeweler who has the expertise in inspecting the
various aspects which determine if the watch is original. There are several
indications which may provide you with instant information regarding the Rolex
watch that you want to buy. When you pick up the Rolex watch in your hand, you
will feel the quality and craftsmanship that has gone into in making that watch.
If you would want to know if the Rolex watch that you are buying is genuine, try
and remove the watch band. In between the lugs, at the 12 'O' clock position,
you will find an engraved "Registered Design" number. If the watch has this
number engraved, the watch that you are holding is not a replica of the Rolex.
Further, if you take a look inbetween the lugs at 6 'O' clock position, you will
find the serial number of the case. A genuine Rolex watch would have the number
engraved. If you are choosing a gold Rolex watch, you should look for signs of
wearing of the gold color on the lug ends and the case-back.
The clasp of an original Rolex watch will be neatly engraved with the Rolex
crown, and as for a replica Rolex
even if the crown is present, the workmanship would be poor. Gold Rolex watches
are pretty heavy compared to the replicas, which are much lighter even though it
appears to be bulky. The reason is that gold Rolex watches are made out of solid
gold, while replicas are made out of base metals plated in gold.
The genuine Rolex Daytona models have mini-registers on the dial. This is the
chronograph "stop watch" providing functions to determine the elapsed time in
hours and minutes. The large hand that sweeps the dial of the watch is also a
part of this chronograph, while a smaller hand on a register would be
functioning as a second hand. As for a replica of the same Rolex watch, these
functions will be hardly available. At most it would be used for "day of week",
"date", and "24-hour time". Further, in replica Rolex watches, the positioning
of these min-registers is incorrect, and also there are variations in their
sizes when compared to the original Rolex.
When Rolex watches are first shipped to its different dealers around the world,
a hologram sticker is usually stuck on the case-back. This hologram has 3
dimensional codes, which can be viewed from different reflective angles. As for
a replica of a Rolex watch, the sticker is not what we call a hologram, and this
is easily detectable. More-over, you cannot get any kind of impression when you
view the sticker at different angles in case of a replica.
